Feeling a bit nostalgic for 2004 I've decided to try to start the family blog up again, so as to get off of the facebook. If you follow me there you may have noticed that I don't do much beyond posting the occasional photo of Gavin (sometimes with one of us) and maybe responding to something someone else posts. I'd still like to share things like that, and even more perhaps, like fun stories about what Gavin is doing and what we're up to as a family, but I don't want it to be as public as facebook can be. I'm not going to make this one private, at least for now, but I don't want what I post to be as available as things can be on the social network. And what better way to do that than to use outdated internet technology? So I hope that many of the people that we want involved in our lives will follow us here, at least now and then, and that we can be a bit more open about what we're up to.
So, with that, here's what we've been up to since our last update.
2012 sucked monkeyballs in a lot of ways, but it definitely had it's good moments as well. We miscarried twice and Stewart was very busy with school and working part time as a legal intern at a local environmental engineering company. I kept myself busy with my job in accounting at a local tech company. That February, the company went public and it has been super interesting to work in the finance department of a company before, during and after going public. We also tried to enjoy the Buffalo/Niagara area as much as possible (some of which I had to do alone, thank you very much law school). We even made a trip to Toronto that summer while my sister and her husband visited.
We both still run as much as possible.
2013 was better; Stewart graduated from law school and started working full time as an attorney for the same company he interned for, and we finished our homestudy in order to be able to adopt. It was great to have my husband back and to have that second income again, and to finally feel like we were on track to have a baby, though the waiting was still hard.

2014 has brought to fruition some of the things we have been working so hard at over the past few years. In January Stewart was sworn in as a NYS attorney. I'm so proud of him for all his hard work and for being amazing. Then, in February we were picked by an expectant mother to adopt her baby, who was born on March 30 (I'll detail this story more fully at my other blog, linked to the right). Gavin is a fantastic baby and we are so happy that he's ours. We finalized his adoption in July and now all we have to do is raise him into an effective adult over the next 18 years. No big deal, right? We've got this.
We went to NYC right after Thanksgiving last year and saw two plays staring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart
Our baby used to be tiny. 6 1/2 pounds at birth. Now he's almost 6 months old and he's got to be pushing 20 pounds of awesome baby-ness.
So that's what we've been up to. Stay tuned for more details about our lives. And pictures. Mostly of Gavin.
